Saturday August 28, 2010 - Barn Bums Page:  PALGRAVE in 2 sets, Volumes 01 and 02.  Great weather and great riders! Tip: in Volume 02, check out the expressions on Fay's face as she and Gandalf do a jump in pictures 232 to 238.  The camera's going at 5 frames a second meaning that her expression changed every 20th of a second. Not bad!! 

Wednesday, August 25, 2010 - Barn Bums Page: Fresh off a rain shower and a fairly dark overcast!  Not many shots and even fewer good ones.  Tim introduced some wonderful new jumps for the course and that made it interesting.

Thursday, August 12, 2010 - Barn Bums Page:   Wowsers!!  Everyone and their horse was in the ring tonight.  Well, 8 actually, which isn't too much for the ring but I sure had to be careful where I walked to avoid getting run over. Got 226 pics out of the night so I split them into 2 groups of 113 each.  On the first cover is Devon on Jester.  That's right, Devon Grosse!  I think the last time I photographed him on a horse was in 2004.  Cool! 

The second cover is NOT of Casey doing a gynastic routine on her horse TC.  Casey did that jump 3 times.  the first, starting with photo #185 was great, what you'd expect.  The second, starting with photo #190, led to her going over the jump as a passenger and the third, starting with photo #200 started out just fine but went wonky in mid-jump.  Whatever, Casey kept her balance enough to stay on her horse.  Yea!! 

Wednesday, August 11, 2010 - Barn Bums Page:   Shot Jacqui, Kassandra, Melissa and Sarah Nielsen.  Must say, we're running out of sun rather more quickly than I would like.  Some of the pics are getting blurry as I struggle to get the shot in darker and darker situations as the sun sinks lower into hte horizon. Boo!

Monday, August 09, 2010 - Family Page:    Sandy and I spent a really nice weekend in Ottawa, visiting with our friend Cath and her daughter Julia.  Weather was great on Saturday so got lots of pics in. They're on the Family Page, August 07th and 08th editions.

Friday August 06, 2010 - Shot 6 riders last night - Thursday the 5th.  Towards the end, Zoe and her pony Linus took on Jacqui on a young thoroughbred, Nibs.  Racing around the ring, Zoe took advantage of the "Pony Rule" (I can go whereever I want) and cut corners like mad to catch up.  We judged it a draw.  Later, Jacqui introduced Nibs to his first double and triple jumps. Nibs balked the first time he had to do the double ("it's not in my contract!!") and the first time he had to do the triple.  But, after reflection, he did them all.  Going the other way, though, same thing: refusals ("OMG, what's that!!??") followed by competent jumps.  Yea!  See it all on the Barn Bums page, August 05th edition.

Thursday, August 05, 2010 - Shot the Old Ladies Riding Club last night.  Unfortunately, didn't do so well.  The light's getting more dim as the month advances and many of my shots were so blurry that I had to destroy them.  That happened with two nice jumps by Sarah Nielsen on Zenn.  Boo, because they were good jumps.  Nice thing about the Old Ladies is that they jump high fences which gives more hang time for us photogs. Jen was out jumping Carly and Jacqui and Tim worked Willie, a new arrival on site for some training.  Nice night!  Barn Bums page, August 04 pics.

Sunday, August 01, 2010 - Holy lolapaloosa, Batman!  Showed up on Thursday the 29th and almost everyone else did too. There were horsies jumping all over the place!!!  Shot and shot and shot, all night. Ended up with 207 pics of equestrians jumping their hearts out.  They're on the Barn Bums page, July 29th edition...

Thursday, July 22, 2010 - So there I was, last night, at Rivendale around 8:00 PM, sitting beside the Jumping Ring, contemplating the solitude and beauty of the farm.  Cathy and Tim were at a soccer game; all was peace and tranquility.  Suddenly, from the Barn, came three riders, all tarted up, followed by a fourth, horseless.  I think she was the Gofer because she had no horse.  I heard one apologize for being late, something about having to get her hair just so and the other's having had trouble with her mascara.  They called themselves the Old Ladies' Riding Club because they always ride so late in the day.  Anyway, in the Ring, on their instruction, the slave ("Gofer") set the jumps to 3', give or take, while they warmed up their mounts.  When all was ready away they went, making up a course and taking turns doing it.  I hid behind the bushes, hoping the noise of my camera wouldn't give me away. It didn't and you can see their rides on the Barn Bums page, July 21, 2010 - the Old Ladies...  It's got the picture of one of them looking like she's ready for tea at the top of the jump.

Sunday, July 18, 2010 - Shot Fay and Jacqui last Wednesday the 14th.  You'll note that there are a few more pics of Fay than usual. That's because with horse-stride Fay's face has a different expression.  Check it out; you'll see what I mean.  There's one sequence in which her tongue sticks out to the left and then to the right; reminds me of Richard Spooner's horse Robinson with his tongue out to the left while he jumped at Spruce Meadows.  oh Fay!!!  See her and Jacqui on the Barn Bums page, July 14th edition.

Sunday, July 04, 2010 - Did two sessions again last week, Casey and Stefi.  Apologies to Jen and Muffy who were in the ring and just getting warmed up on the 30th when i shot Casey. Got an impressive dose of asthma from the dust and the hay being cut in the field beside the ring adn could feel it coming on.  Decided it was time to bail and was glad I did. Wheezed all night.  There's nothing quite like being short of breath - for hours.  Anyway, enjoy the pics; they're on the Barn Bums page, ct 100630 Casey and ct 100701 Stefi.

Monday, June 28, 2010 - Shot two sessions last week, Wednesday the 23rd and Friday the 25th. Lots of folks were jumping on Wednesday so got lots of pics. Haven't seen Fay for awhile so it was pleasant to check out her expressions as she jumped.  There's a differnt one every time.  Shot Stefi on the 25th. She hasn't been on Jester for a long time and, since he needs lots of legm, she hobbled around for a few days thereafter, complaining about sore calves and thighs.  Poor Baby!  Anyway, they're on the Barn Bums page.  Enjoy! 

Tuesday, June 15, 2010 - Stefi rode today so I tagged along to take pics.  Was trying to do multiple shots on the one frame and failed miserably but got some nice shots of Cathy and Devon horsing around on the trampoline.  The last series of shots are of Cathy bouncing Devon like a basketball.  See them on the Barn Bums Page - today's date. 

Then, we went to the Millenium Equestrian Centre.  While Stefi visited her horse I took some shots in the twilight.  These shots are on the Family page, today's date.

Monday, June 14, 2010 - Yet another day of dark clouds (it rained to the west) and therefore no shadows for the Barn Bums (Allison, Cathy and Jacqui.  LiLo, though, made a special appearance.

Wednesday, April 21, 2010 - a regular Barn Bums night. Well, not quite so regular; Cathy's horse decided at the last moment not to jump a fence, forcing Cathy to dismount in an unexpected and unorthodox manner. Got some nice pics of Tim and Fay but the highlight was Jacqui. She'd never been photographed jumping before so there they were, horse and rider putting on their best smiles as they jumped through the course. A nice evening!! Sunday, April 18, 2010 - Went to the Millenium Equestrian Centre, where we keep our two family horses, Destin and Winnie. Sandy's there every weekend and, since the weather was lovely, I went too with my camera. One of Barb's horses, Blinky, had her baby yesterday. Big Baby! Anyway, Barb and her dad, Chris, were there so we checked out mother and daughter and I wandered over the property taking pics of whatever caught my eye. Most relaxing!! Sunday, November 22, 2009 - A rather busy day in Pictureville. Shot some horsies at Cathy and Tim's (Rivendale Farms) for a project about which I'm sworn to secrecy and then stopped by Barb's Barn (don't know its proper name) and shot Winnie and Destin, Sandy's and Stefi's horsies, respectively.  Met Q and Tom, two other horses in the paddock, so I shot them too.  See the Barn Bums page for the Rivendale horses and the Family page for ours.

Sunday, August 30, 2009 - Took pics of Tim, Muhammed and Alison at Palgrave yesterday, the 29th.  Not sure what it is but seemingly everytime I go to Palgrave the weather is awful.  Usually it's cold but, since it's August and can't be cold, it's rainy. This time was no exception; it drizzled for much of the morning.  Anyway, enough of my bleating; there are two really neat pics here (if i do say so myself), one of Muhammed and one of Tim going over the same jump (in horsey code it's the "Natural").  check them out on the Barn Bums Page or click the link: HS 090829 PALGRAVE, TIM, MUHAMMED, ALISON.

Wednesday, August 26, 2009 - Sandy and I were married last the weekend, on Saturday the 22nd. Wow, it was great!!!!  Our Minister, Ray David Glenn officiated at the ceremony with a humourous touch that made us all feel relaxed and welcome.  We ate very, very well at the Edgewater Manor Restaurant in Stoney Creek and danced to a great band - the Jerry Stiff Band.  As always, our guests made the party. It was wonderful to see them and share our happiness with them. 

There are almost 600 pictures of the event.  Special thanks to Jim, Lindsay, Mike and Brady for taking them.  Of course, I couldn't resist so I took some too (never met a camera I didn't want to use). Monday, August 10, 2009 - So, here I am being slack again. Here are pics from last Wednesday the 5th.  Got lots of pictures of Stefi jumping with Mrs B, a few cute shots of the dogs and plenty of Fay. She's a photographer's delight because she has soo many expressions on her face as she's concentrating.  Back in 2003 I shot pics at Spruce Meadows and happened to get a shot of Richard Spooner jumping with his horse, Robinson.  He's on the US National team and is notewrthy for two things: he jumps with a style that makes Coaches cringe (drapes himself on the horse - so much so that he has special stirrups that lock onto his feet) and his horse, Robinson, always jumped with his tongue hanging out the side of his mouth.  Well, Robinson is retired but his style lives on - in Fay. This night Fay was working on Gandalf's doing an automatic lead change.  It was an exercise on the flat, with the trigger being the crossing of a pole on the ground.  You can see her concentration by the expressions on her face; they're priceless and yes, there's at least one shot in which Fay's tongue is out sideways (usually the right), just like Robinson.  The pics are: CT-090805 CATHY, STEFI, FAY, MUFFY and of course, they're on the Barn Bums page.

Wednesday, September 24, 2008 - Attended a meeting in Brussels last week on behalf of Xstrata. Decided to take the camera so was able to take some pictures of the folks I work with. You can see them in f 080916 Xstrata's Best. Also got to take some pictures in and around Brussel's Grand Place. their link is f 080917 Brussels. Finally, took a day's holiday last Saturday and visited Bruges. you can see those pics in f 080920 Bruges. The links are all in the Family Page as well. Enjoy!

Sunday, September 14, 2008 - Yesterday, the 13th, we attended a unique ceremony the Vet College at Guelph puts on for its new students. In essence, the veterenarian societies band together and welcome the fisrt-year students to the fold. So, the Dean of the school spoke, as did the Presidents of the Canadian Vet society, the Ontario Vet society, the Ontario Vet college - the licencing body - and the Alumni Association. Then the students tropped up to shake the presidents' hands, walk down the side of the Auditorium and re-emerge in their seats with brand-new blue lab coats and engraved stethoscopes. A reception was laid on at the vet school afterwards and it capped off a very pleasant, allbeit rainy, day. Took pics, but, because the light was poor, they're not good but they are, at least, a record of the event. You can see them on the following link:f 080913 Stefi's Vet Ceremony.

Monday, September 01, 2008 - So, over the Labour Day Weekend, Stefi and Sandy visited the Niagara region and went on a wine tour. Most of the pics aren't bad. However, Sandy tried to take pictures of the Falls from the revolving restaurant at the top of the Skylon. She insists she was sober. Saturday, August 30, 2008 - Had the most wonderful experience! Was able to visit Madrid, Spain, very briefly, on the 26th. Check out the pics on the following link: f 080826 Madrid.

Friday, August 1, 2008 - Wow! Sarah was riding again, this time on Misty and she looked great! Mind you, she had one of those situations that leaves every dad with his heart in his throat. In the aftermath of a jump she lost her balance and started bouncing. She bounced out of her saddle onto Misty's back behind the saddle, then bounced back onto the saddle - and kept on going as if nothing had happened. Wowsers!!!

Something's different about these pics. They were taken by Muffy Falkenburger, a rider at the barn and a budding young photographer. Decided she might as well know what a good camera and lens feel like. So enjoy. Here comes the link: ct 080801 Cathy, Sarah & Kelsey.

Friday, July 11, 2008 - A beautiful night, sun streaming between the trees, birdies chirping and jumpers jumping at Rivendell Farms. Then Fay fell. Wow. That was some fall! She was all right but it took a while for her to feel good enough to be able to walk (slowly) out of the Ring. Needless to say, not may pics were taken after that. Monday, May 26, 2008 - Phew! got lots to show and more to come. For starters, check out Muffy and Kelsey jumping at the Barn on May 14th. T'was a cold evening!!! They're Barn Bums. Then, on the 18th, I joined Sandy and Beau (our dog) on their walk with Jennie and Paige (her dog). Haven't done many dog shots so I'm learning!! Check out Beau and Paige!
